LIFE CHANGING WORDS

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS GUEST BLOG

By: Emma Patrick

Hi lovely people! My name’s Emma and I’m so grateful to be a guest on the Something Beautiful blog in honor of Mental Health Awareness month.

Recently, I said the words that changed everything for me...”I need help.” My struggles seemed so insurmountable. I had lost sight of my values and what I was passionate about. I was NOT seeing the light at the end of the tunnel…AT ALL.

However, the coming days after admitting I needed help brought much relief and freedom.

I learned the importance of surrounding myself with good people who I could confide in. I learned the importance of saying “yes” to myself. PSA: you are ALWAYS allowed to say “no” to others and to anything that doesn’t fill your soul with goodness.

I also learned the importance of self-love and that it’s something that should be taken seriously. Self-love means taking care of yourself – mind, body, AND soul. Knowing what YOU need in order to be your best is so stinkin’ important!

I’ve learned that your struggles do not define you. We all have struggles in our lives, some more significant than others. Healing yourself and finding your way back to YOU will always demand more from you – more letting go, more self-love, more courage, and more faith in the process.

I’ve learned that healing is a lifelong shindig that is sometimes painful, but it’s a process that brings a whole lotta freedom and joy too. It reminds us who we are and it brings us closer to ourselves. A friend of mine once told me it’s less about doing it “right” and more about choosing to show up and make the choices that support us most.

The journey is hard, but it’s always worth it. We’ve got this! I believe in you.

Emma is grateful to call Petoskey, Michigan home where she resides in a downtown condo with her puppy, Scout, and works a marketing job that she adores. Aside from that, Emma enjoys traveling, photography, inspiring others, and a good cup of coffee!
