MY DESIRES
I’ve been participating in Deepak and Oprah’s 21 day meditation series about the energy of attraction and manifesting our best life. Today is day 4 and I’m loving the series thus far!
The other day a friend saw my Instagram Story about day 2’s centering thought, my desires make me feel alive. He followed up by asking what 3 of my desires are.
“Very interesting question,” I thought to myself.
And before I could overthink the question I wrote the first 3 things that came to mind.
- To make a living working and traveling at the same time.
- To be free of worry.
- To love myself unconditionally.
Now I have way more than 3 desires, so I answered quickly because I didn’t want to overthink the question and get myself in a tizzy about what my absolute top 3 desires are (I’ve learned from past experience!). And I’ll be honest, I surprised myself with what I wrote, which is why this turned into a blog post.
I wasn’t surprised by the first one, to make a living working and traveling at the same time, as I think about this often and am currently building my business to ensure this happens. So let’s move on to desire numero dos (2).
To be free of worry.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think most of us would have this somewhere on our list. Maybe not top 3, but it would probably be somewhere on our list of desires. We get worried when we experience fear of the unknown - we get worried about future plans and we worry about things that happened in the past. Then this worry turns into struggle. I always made things so much harder and more complicated than what they needed to be because of worry.
By simply having “worry-filled” thoughts we can send our bodies into fight-or-flight. I know because I’ve done this way to many times. I’ve lost sleep over worry and I literally made myself sick because of worry.
When we worry, we aren’t present, which is why the practices of mindfulness and meditation are so important. They remind us to come back to the present moment. When we’re centered and present, we don’t need to worry and then there is no struggle. We just learn to BE. It’s simple, but can be difficult to comprehend because we like to over engineer things to the max (well I did anyways).
These days, being free of worry means I’m willingly sitting in the passenger seat more often than the driver’s seat (something I previously didn’t know anything about). It means, I’m surrendering to the Divine to steer me in the right direction. And ONLY when needed, I’m moving back to the driver’s seat to take action - because we still need to take action to make it happen. You see, not to long ago, I always had to be the driver. And when I was the driver, I was worried and anxious all the time. I tried to ensure all experiences met MY idea of perfection vs God’s.
And nowadays, being free of worry means I believe with all my heart and soul I will always be provided for. I’m learning to surrender.
Now worry isn’t a terrible thing (this is another good blog post), but for me it was chronic and unmanaged, which explains why subconsciously I wrote this as #2 on my list. It’s a loving reminder of my new “worry-free mindset” that is massaging its way into my being.
Let’s move on to desire #3.
To love myself unconditionally.
I’ve learned that when I love myself unconditionally it’s nearly impossible for me not to share this love, compassion and grace with the rest of the world. But in order for me to bring more love into the world, I need to first love myself unconditionally. It hasn’t always been easy and there are still moments when I shame and talk negatively to myself, but I’m a work in progress.
I learned a trick at a Tony Robbins conference I attended earlier this year. We had to write down our limiting beliefs and then after each one write, “But the truth is X.” The X represents the truthful thought or positive affirmation. See an example below (I actually wrote this at the conference and had never actually verbalized this as a fear before. My hand just wrote it.).
- Limiting Belief: My opinions and thoughts will be rejected if I share them.
- But the truth is: I have important opinions and thoughts to share that others can relate to.
Now if I have a negative thought about myself, I note it, and perform this exercise. It works wonders and is an extremely powerful exercise. All in all, there is still work to be done here, but I’ve come a long way.
There is something else I want you to know about me. I used to feel bad about having desires. I felt blessed already, so I felt bad asking for more. It felt greedy. But now I have no shame. I have desires. And there are many. Some are bigger than others, but I have them. Some are more shallow than others (i.e. right now I’m craving vegan ice cream), but I will continue having them because this is how creation works. In order to create, we have to have desires. And I’m all about unleashing this creative, feminine energy that has been pent up for far too long! SO have desires. Have big, juicy, audacious desires that give you so much energy you start dancing in the middle of your living room (seriously, they should fire you up this much)!
Oh and one more thing. Make sure you have your OWN desires. Desires that align with what YOU want in life. And align with YOUR life purpose, not anyone else’s. You might share desires with a loved one or friend, but make sure you really truly and authentically share these desires.
Ok, that's all that’s on my mind for now. If you haven’t signed up for the 21 day meditation experience, it isn’t too late. I would encourage you to start now before we’re too far into the series.
You know my desires now, so what are yours? Take 15 minutes today to write them down and then go dance in the middle of your living room. If you want to share them, I encourage you to share them on the Something Beautiful Facebook page so we can all cheer you on.
Dream big, you beautiful souls!
